EXPERIMENTAL CLOCK
DESCRIPTION
Time to me is never stable. My relationship with time varies. Sometims it is a concrete subject that I can clearly see, but more often it is abstract and blurred to me.
DESIGN PROCESS
I start with sketching out different ideas:
After I transfer to p5 sketch. I start to play around with text size,
fonts, and all kinds of variables.
Here comes my initial sketch.
Then I started to try out different compositions. The time starts to
switch between organized and more of a abstract order in about ten
seconds. I also applied blury effect to show my
interpresention/relationship with time. Which time has always been blury
and abstract to me.
The other version of this applys a little interaction. As you hover on
the left side it presents the unorganized and abstract time. And it is
made to be diffcult to read. The middle part shrinks in textSize as a
transition to the right. Hovering on the right will present the more
readable and orgranized version of clock.
I am also trying with different typefaces and colors.
After trying with all different compostion, I decide to put both of the
"chaotic time" and "managed time" on the same page to have a greater
visual comparison and impact.
Final version:
REFLECTION
The project first let me reflect on my own time management, and also what time is really like. As I mentioned, my time is often a mixture of "chaotic" and "managed". Part of me struggling with my own blurred, abstract time, part of me follows the universal time. Especially after school starts, my daily routine gets quite irregular. On the left side, inspired by TypeWriter machine, I leave the record for every past second. When we check the time, we focus on the current second, but sometimes forget that time is accumulated. This part of time is very organized and clear, represent managed, universal time. And on the right side, I present my own relationship with time. Time gets overwrite again and again until it can not be recognized.
